Baughman Center Ceremony and Thomas Center Wedding Reception

A wedding at The Baughman Center is one of the most beautiful ways to begin a historic Gainesville celebration, and Kaitlyn and Marco’s day was the perfect example of why couples love this venue. Nestled beside Lake Alice on the University of Florida campus, the Baughman Center is known for its floor-to-ceiling windows, peaceful setting, and intimate chapel space that seats just under 100 guests. Ceremony rentals typically range from about $828–$1,468 depending on the day and time, making it one of the most elegant yet surprisingly affordable ceremony locations in Gainesville. Kaitlyn and Marco chose this space because they live in Gainesville and loved the historic charm and natural surroundings that perfectly matched their elegant, classy, and natural wedding vision.

After their ceremony, the celebration continued at the historic Thomas Center in the charming Duckpond neighborhood. Originally built in 1910, the Thomas Center is one of the most popular historic reception venues in Gainesville, with flexible spaces like the Spanish Court atrium and beautiful gardens. Rental pricing is very customizable depending on which spaces and hours you reserve, with city event spaces starting around $8–$105 per hour, making full wedding rentals typically very affordable compared to many venues. For couples considering a ceremony here as well, there are several stunning outdoor options: Turtle Court with its romantic courtyard balcony, the fountain courtyard, or a ceremony beneath the towering oak trees in the gardens, each offering a unique historic Gainesville backdrop.

One of my favorite details from Kaitlyn and Marco’s wedding was their painted illustration of both venues, which guests signed throughout the day as a creative guestbook. Their design featured a joyful blue and sunshine-yellow color palette, with bridesmaids in flowing yellow dresses that looked beautiful against the historic architecture and lush greenery. As their photographer, I created a custom timeline so we could capture portraits at both venues without rushing, something I highly recommend when couples choose a ceremony and reception in two locations. One special moment that guests loved was their choreographed first dance, followed by a touching mother-daughter dance that made the evening even more memorable.

If you’re considering a wedding at the Baughman Center or reception at the Thomas Center, one of my favorite tips for couples is to schedule your engagement session at these venues. Both locations are incredibly photogenic, and engagement sessions here are free to visit and perfect for previewing what your wedding images can look like, from the iconic boardwalks and lake views at the Baughman Center to the romantic gardens and courtyards at the Thomas Center.
