Leu Garden backdrop to their perfect engagement session

As a Gainesville-based wedding photographer who’s often in the Orlando area, I was thrilled to photograph this couple whose story is as heartfelt as it is effortless. They were engaged on her birthday—an intimate morning filled with coffee, thoughtful gifts, and the warmth of their back patio. Their session took place at Leu Gardens in Winter Park, a location that holds sentimental meaning for them. They’ve loved plants since the early days of their relationship and shared a memorable date here that became a tradition; they return each year to learn about new flora and revisit their favorites. Capturing their present essence and creating a core memory was their biggest priority, and the gardens provided the perfect backdrop for their natural connection and gentle chemistry.

We chose to begin their session in the late afternoon when the light softens into a warm, golden wash—ideal for capturing vibrant, true-to-life colors and flattering, romantic portraits. Our first stop was the towering bamboo, a plant they adore, allowing their personalities to shine in a setting that felt authentically them. From there we wondered to the Arid Garden, their favorite area, where we photographed both digital and film images among the striking, sculptural cacti. The combination of meaningful locations and dreamy light created a session full of emotion and passion.
